Key Points:

  • Unique Visual Appeal: Labradorite dice enhance the D&D gaming experience with their distinctive iridescent effects.
  • Symbol of Transformation: Represents character and story evolution and growth within D&D games.
  • Promotes Communication: Encourages player interaction and teamwork.
  • Emotional and Physical Healing: Offers mechanisms for emotional relief and physical recovery during gameplay.

Labradorite is renowned for its exceptional display of iridescence, with red, blue, purple, yellow, and other colors dancing before your eyes as you turn it in your hand. But beyond this rare beauty, there is much more mystery to explore.

The Schiller effect, labradorescence, light interference, and lattice distortion are some scientific explanations for the color flashes in labradorite. However, perhaps the Inuit of Labrador, Canada, said it best, suggesting that the northern lights, or Aurora Borealis, were trapped within the stone.

The Colors of Labradorite

It may surprise many that the various colors displayed in high-quality labradorite are not due to actual pigments or mineral impurities within the stone. Instead, labradorite consists of layers of different minerals, which, when light passes through, split white light into all the colors of the rainbow, reflecting them back, deflecting, and twinkling before our eyes.

The Spiritual Significance of Labradorite

Labradorite is known as the stone of transformation, highly beneficial for those undergoing significant changes in life. Whether it's a new career, relocation, the end of a relationship, or the start of a healthy new lifestyle, labradorite offers support to persevere and succeed in these challenges.

The Health Benefits of Labradorite

Labradorite is thought to relieve stress and depression, benefiting physical health. It positively affects the respiratory, metabolic, and digestive systems, helps alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, arthritis, gout, and helps regulate high blood pressure.

How to Distinguish Real Labradorite?

  • Source Reliability: Always opt to purchase gemstones from reputable dealers. This is the most reliable way to ensure authenticity, although it might not always be feasible when shopping online or looking for bargains in stores.

  • Familiarize Yourself: Familiarize yourself with labradorite's appearance by studying examples online or in gem shops. Knowing what genuine labradorite looks like will help you identify real stones when shopping.

  • Unique Iridescence: Labradorite is known for its exceptional iridescence, a phenomenon not commonly seen in many other stones. Opal and fire agate might show similar effects, but labradorite's specific play of color is distinctive.

  • Internal Flash: Genuine labradorite displays a color change that seems to emanate from within the stone due to light interacting with its internal structures. Fake labradorite tends not to show these changes with movement.

  • Color Variation with Angle: Authentic labradorite will show different colors or appear dull at certain angles and then show vivid colors like blue or red at others. Fakes often have a constant color regardless of the angle.

  • Price Check: While labradorite is not typically very expensive, be wary of prices that seem too good to be true, as labradorite remains a rare and sought-after gemstone.

  • Hardness Test: Labradorite's position on the Mohs hardness scale makes it susceptible to scratches from materials of similar hardness, such as glass or steel nails. However, this similarity makes hardness a less effective method for testing authenticity.

  • Retail Trust: At DragonStone, we ensure that all gemstones are accurately described, any treatments are disclosed, and our return policy supports customer confidence in our products.

What Makes Labradorite Special?

Labradorite is a magical gem. If you have the chance to hold a quality specimen and turn it from side to side, you’ll understand the magic as you see dazzling colors appear and disappear right before your eyes.

Bright peacock blue will twinkle at the top, then, as it fades, a blend of orange and yellow dances at the bottom right. Before the yellow shifts to dissolve the blue, the blue returns, now surrounded by metallic green. This flashing is called labradorescence because it actually only occurs in this type of stone.

Every twist produces something new, and as you try to recapture an amazing image from a second ago, you're distracted by a new, even more astonishing image.

Care for Labradorite

Labradorite should be stored in a fabric-lined box or wrapped in a soft cloth. It's fairly soft, with a Mohs hardness of about 6-6.5, so it should be kept away from harder gemstones to prevent scratches.

To clean, simply wash with a soft brush in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. We do not recommend using ultrasonic cleaners or steamers. It's best to remove any jewelry before engaging in any physical activities like sports, housework, or gardening.
